Well now you know how I felt in Felfri. :)

You felt that way because you had a distinctly unfair advantage while in the Cube in Felfri. It would be idiocy to dare attempt that fight again... it was not cowardice to avoid it.

But it's surely cowardice to avoid a fight now, on even ground.

Ah, but it was cowardice.

Brave men have gone against far more powerful enemies many times in my world. Sometimes they triumphed. Sometimes they were defeated. It all depends. But you didn't even want to find out. You are a coward.

And I am denying you what you denied me.

There's a difference between bravery and stupidity, AM. Perhaps it can be a fine line at times, but I know it well enough to identify it. Fools rush in without thinking, without a plan. I am no fool. I know better than to rise to your goading.

But this time... this situation that I offer is very different. You could certainly plan for it, and face me in a truly fair battleground.

Are you truly enjoying denying me? Wouldn't you get more pleasure out of a fight? You enjoy violence too much for your own good, after all.

Why should I indulge you when you won't indulge me? I hardly find that fair.

[Kain is right in that AM does enjoy violence and doesn't want to pass up an opportunity to rip Kain to shreds. But he knows that his normal advantages won't be in play here...]

You're one to talk about 'fairness.' You clearly have no understanding of the concept. But you're always begging for me to 'indulge' you, as you say. Yet you hesitate when I freely offer you the chance? Why does it scare you so? Because it's a situation you cannot control?

[He can guess at that much, anyway, and even if it's not the case, he knows he can still bother AM with that implication. Or hopes, anyway.]

Oh come now, you're constantly screaming about how you are going to fight me and slaughter me and all that. Why would I be scared?

I simply find it more fun to deny you what you clearly seek.

Because you're being uncharacteristically hesitant to face me. Normally, you're begging for me to visit you in one of your torture chambers. Is it because it's not an environment you fully control? Is that what scares you, AM?

Is it truly fun for you to hold back, though? To simply... do nothing? It sounds all too dull. Like [~~having no mouth but needing to scream~~] being trapped in an inanimate body with nowhere to go... that sounds familiar...

[Ugh..... Kain unfortunately does know how to push his buttons.]

All right, Kain. I'll make you a deal.

I will come and fight you now if you promise the next time we return to Felfri that you will fight me there on my terms.

Fine. So be it.

[And AM knows how to play him all too well, too. After all, Kain is all too honor-bound, and won't back down on giving his word. Especially something such as this, where AM would taunt him if he doesn't follow through.]

[Only later will he overthink it and realize the horror of what he's just promised.]

[For AM, this is a great deal. Fight Kain in the Cube and possibly lose, but get the guarantee that if they should return to Felfri, Kain will become his pet.

It's a minor sacrifice, but secretly he hopes they never return to Felfri. He does not want to return to that immobile body, especially when his powers grew unreliable.]

Good. Then I will see you in the Cube.

[It's a risk for sure, and there's a cold feeling of doubt initially, the feeling one gets when fright first sets in. But gradually, he feels... a bit better about things. For one, that vengeful mood surges back and overcomes any common sense he might have had about the matter. After all, there's no guarantee they'll return to Felfri. It's happened multiple times, but things do change...]
